From an actual conversation with a customer – March 2015
[Customer] I tried to sell my piano but the buyer brought her tuner to check the piano. He found something loose in the piano and told her not to buy it.
I inspected the
piano, found the problem and explained it to the customer – to which she replied
[Customer] Why didn’t you find this problem the last time you tuned it?
[Me] That was 5 YEARS ago. It probably worked loose during that time.
[Customer] Oh. I was waiting for my son to tell me it needed to be tuned, but he never did.
Point #1. Regular maintenance allows issues to be corrected before they become serious problems.
Point #2. Many people will not notice that the piano is out of tune – especially since it usually changes very slowly.
